Channeltech CAT6 Flat and 2+2 Flat

What is Channeltech CAT6 Flat?

Channeltech CAT6 Flat is a flat elevator cable (flat travelling cable) for IP cameras in lifts: four twisted pairs of 24 AWG stranded copper, each pair in its own flexible sheath, inside an FRLS PVC jacket in a 12 × 5 mm flat profile. Part code CC-8251G-90. It carries data and PoE from the lift well to the camera in the cabin, with a recommended run of up to 60 m on PoE.

What is Channeltech 2+2 Flat?

Channeltech 2+2 Flat (CC-9511K-90) is a flat elevator cable for HD, AHD, HD-CVI, HD-TVI and analog cameras in lifts: two tinned-copper video cores and two copper power cores in one black, flexible FRLS PVC flat jacket. Video and 12 V power travel in one cable.

Who first made a flat 2+2 lift cable for HD cameras in India?

Channeltech. The Channeltech 2+2 Flat was the first flat lift cable of its kind in India, made for HD cameras in lifts.

What is a flat elevator cable, and is it the same as a travelling cable?

A flat elevator cable is a flat, flexible cable made to hang in a loop in a lift well and flex on every trip. A travelling cable is any cable that moves with the cabin; the lift has its own for power and control, and a flat elevator cable for CCTV or intercom is an additional one. So Channeltech's flat cables are travelling cables, made for the camera and the intercom.

Is CAT6Flat a Channeltech or a WIAN product?

Channeltech. CAT6Flat cables are made and sold by Channeltech Systems Pvt Ltd, Vapi. The same cables are also listed on wian.in, clearly marked as Channeltech-brand products.

Who makes flat elevator cable for CCTV in India?

Channeltech Systems Pvt Ltd makes CAT6 Flat and 2+2 Flat elevator cables at its plant in Vapi, Gujarat. The family cable business dates from 1985, and the cables are approved by leading lift OEMs.

Choosing the right cable

Which cable for an IP camera in a lift?

Channeltech CAT6 Flat 4 Pair, CC-8251G-90. For tall, high-speed or non-stop lifts use CC-8261G-90, the same cable with two galvanised steel ropes.

Which cable for an HD or analog camera in a lift?

Channeltech 2+2 Flat, CC-9511K-90: two video cores and two power cores in one flat cable.

Which cable for a lift intercom or emergency phone?

Channeltech CAT6 Flat 2 Pair, CC-4251G-90: two twisted pairs in a soft FRLS PVC flat jacket. Keep it separate from the camera cable.

When do I need the GI rope version?

When the hanging loop is long or the lift runs continuously: tall buildings, hospital lifts, and lift wells above roughly 15 floors. The ropes carry the cable's weight so the copper does not.

Can I use ordinary round CAT6 in a lift well?

Only for the fixed run from the NVR to the junction box. In the moving loop, solid-core cable can crack at the flex point; use a flat stranded cable.

Can I use 3+1 CCTV cable in a lift?

Only in the fixed section. Round 3+1 cable is not built for continuous flexing. For the moving loop use the Channeltech 2+2 Flat.

Can the camera and the intercom share one cable?

They can, using one pair of the 4-pair cable for the intercom, but most lift companies prefer a separate 2-pair cable so a camera fault never silences the emergency phone.

Is a flat patch cable the same as a CAT6 flat lift cable?

No. A flat patch cable is a thin desk cable with no flexing rating and no FRLS jacket. A lift cable has stranded conductors and a jacket built for continuous movement.

How much cable, and how it is supplied

How much cable do I need per lift?

Fixed at mid-height, the loop is about half the travel plus 3 m, plus 10 % slack. Fixed at the top, it is the travel plus 3 m plus 10 %. Travel is the number of floors served times the floor height, about 3 m.

How many coils for four lifts in a G+12 building?

Each lift travels about 36 m (12 floors at 3 m), so about 23 m of cable fixed at mid-height. Four lifts need about 93 m: one 180 m coil, with the rest left over.

How is Channeltech flat cable supplied?

As a 180 m continuous coil (90 m + 90 m). If you need 90 m, we cut it in the middle. Rolls of 200, 300, 400 and 500 m are available on special request. Cut each lift from the coil as one piece so the moving loop has no joint.

How far will the cable carry PoE to the camera?

Channeltech recommends runs of up to 60 m of CAT6 Flat 4 Pair for an IP camera on PoE. Stranded 24 AWG copper has a little more resistance than solid 23 AWG.

Installing it

Which RJ45 plug do I use on flat CAT6?

A plug rated for stranded conductors, or a pass-through plug with stranded-compatible contacts. Plugs made for solid core bite a single strand and loosen under vibration.

Can I join the flat cable to round CAT6?

Yes, in the junction box in the fixed section: keystone to keystone or a coupler. Never inside the moving loop.

How do I fix the cable in the lift well?

Cushioned clamps at the travelling-cable bracket and at the cabin, flat face to the bracket, loop hanging free. On the GI rope version, rope clamps carry the load. The lift company does or supervises the fixing.

Why does my lift camera drop out when the lift moves?

Usually the cable in the loop, a plug rated for solid core, a tight cable tie, or voltage drop on a 12 V camera. The six-question diagnosis on the Fix page gives the likely cause and the test.
